At the summit of the city, drink in the roof-top air and the well-chosen wines

Editorial

The view from The Deck to the surface of the city can be, according to the hour, turbulent or calm. On board, however, things remain consistent. The barometer at this rooftop favourite is always set to pleasant.

If you've not packed your sou'wester, never fear. A guard against Melbourne's temperamental weather is in place. From May to August, a silk lined marquee is placed over the deck to preserve your 'do and your drinks.

In the chilly season, The Deck adds a cosy theme to its marquee. The bar will evoke an alpine aesthetic and add a dash of cuckoo-clock inspired novelty to your winter drinking. As the heat ebbs, the expectations of regulars who are accustomed to the themes at play within the marquee rise.

In summer, of course, it's time again to praise a pagan solar god. In summer, too, the grill is revved up for a race toward the barbecue.

In colder months, a carb-based menu of multi-culti pizza and flat-breads stave off the chill and complement a small but decent wine list.

At the time of writing, Thursday nights welcome a little post-GFC reason, Ten bucks will buy you a pizza and a glass of wine and beer. On Friday and Saturday evenings, things tend to get a little less loungey with the arrival of a DJ.

Yeah, the viw may be great - but that's if you can get into the place. Unfortunately this is one of those places where if you are not with a large group of girls wearing almost nothing - you won't be let in. Plenty of other much better bars with views in Melbourne.

Highly disappointed. Don't bother organising a group to go there even if you ring up before and they say yeah no problems, you will be rejected. Much better bars and pubs in melbourne, don't waste your time here.

Nice place but very the waiters and waitresses try to steal money when they give you change and it's not accidental because it happened several times to me and friends!!

You guys who complain about not getting in obviously dont dress and present well, we go there all the time with no girls and get straight in. If the staff are rude its the only way for the girls to get rid of desparate tosspots who wont leave them alone.

Are you aware that A FEW people live around here and do not necessary like the music you play and would like just to enjoy staying at home during the week-end and get some rest?! So selfish.
