Supper Inn Chinese Restaurant
Editorial
Late night dining doesn't get much more indulgent than this unabashedly old-school Chinese eatery that offers creamy congee, springy noodles, delicate dumplings and other Cantonese staples to a mixed bag of diners. The eager crowd is undeterred by Supper Inn's nondescript entrance down a back alley in Chinatown - mainly recognisable by the constant line of people queuing down the staircase at all hours of the evening. It's a favourite haunt for exorbitant post-party feasts and late-night rendezvous of the hospitality industry with gleeful gatherings held there in between.
Inside, the décor hasn't changed for more than 20 years and service is brusque but few notice when they are happily slurping a bowlful of this restaurant's excellent congee. For an authentic experience enjoy it with youtiao (Chinese bread strips). Meats are roasted to glistening goodness with crispy skin encasing succulent flesh of the roast quail, pigeon and suckling pig.
Firmly entrenched in the hearts of late night diners, booking are recommended to avoid a long wait on the stairs, but then again, the anticipation makes the food taste even better.

Tried to book in a work function for 12 people and was rudely told that every person had to order a main meal or that we had to all have banquets. Apparently everyone who books has to agree with this (though this has not been the case in the past). Absolutely ridiculous as 12 mains would feed about 25 people. Terribly disappointed, and though I have enjoyed dinning here in the past will go elsewhere from now on.

Stumbled in after a football game last week. Great food, great beer, great service. Will make this a regular stop before and after games this year.
