Spice Market
Editorial
Not that there is anything that sinister about Spice Market, but the heavy stone floors and penchant for imported religious sculpture and ostentation are slightly over the top. The décor means that you are best to dress simply and elegantly to avoid blending into the walls.
Spice Market is rather proud of their DJs and “professional” cocktail staff, who can indeed whip up an exotic concoction in less time than it takes you to find the bathrooms.
While slothing about glamorously on one of the many low-slung divans, remember not to stare up at the chandeliers for too long or a moth may drop in your cocktail - or worse your mouth! There are a number of private booth areas, each with a décor inspired by a different international city, but these are strictly for minimum spend (like $600+) group bookings, so don't try to sneak into one thinking the staff will mistake for you a sculpture and probably try to polish you; they're more likely just kick you out into the bar area.
While the interior is unique in both style and opulence, the eastern pseudo-religious references (whether deliberate or not) are a bit much and the crowd a little WAG or perhaps just bogan chic.

This is a really nice place inside, although we had to wait in line for ages just because we had one guy friend with us! besides that inside is really nice and big, lots of people. The crowd varies i went on a saturday night and the ages varied from 20s to older. Next time I may try a friday night though. Besides that the place was very nice!

I went for the first time on saturday, its not as classy as people made out to be. we got in straight away we didnt even wait in que! (however there were 4 of us, all girls) The music was good they played a bit of everything and the venue is gorgeous. I have 3 complaints, 1) sloooow service at the bar 2)i am an asthmatic, the insence in the toilets nearly killed me, i literally could'nt breathe 3) there is a ramp on the way to the toilets which is a massive hazard, its like walking down a hill after it has rained with high heels, typsy and people pushing you. other than that I had an awesome night, I would go back.

Certainly this venue has a fabulous fit out, great decor and the private booths and are great but it is certainly not a well run venue and classy and sophisticated patrons are few and far between. Silk Road is a better choice.

I must say, I was never been in melbourne at a such exclusive, sofisticated opulent bar. I was transported right away on 3 different continents, of theri best palaces.

I went last week, mainly ppl in mid/late 20s. I think it is better than longroom and silk road.

A huge disapointment. The setting is fab, but it has built a venue that looks like it caters for an indulgent evening. The complete opposite is the effect of the evening. Our group booked a booth. We were impressed when we arrived as it went down hill within the 1st half hour. The management have some serious issues that they are choosing to ignore. The webpage says 'dine like a sultan' 1. Sat in the Persian room, initial intro by staff warm and inviting. Ordered food. 2. The Waitress for the evening was hopeless. Just dumped the food on the table. Didn't tell us what each dish was and walked away unanswering any of our questions. 3. You can not have fine dining (average food really) in a $500 booth and expect any group to listen and enjoy the evening when they crank up the top 40 dj so loud and gave chris brown and brittany spears blare throughtout the place. 4. This left us feeling we were in some slummy dj bar in swanston street. There were only 3 people on the dance floor
