Seamstress Restaurant

Seamstress was gone, then back again in a flash. Thank heavens for Melbourne's bar scene.

Editorial

Everyone loves a good scandal. And certainly more than a few feathers were ruffled when Seamstress shut up shop overnight with little or no explanation as to what went on behind closed doors. Whatever did happen, new owner Tally Konstas of The Apartment and Tony Starr's Kitten Club swooped in, bought it up and re-opened in double quick time.

Seamstress is a fantastic place indeed, perched on the top floor of this rather fancy looking Terraced house, with the award-winning Seamstress restaurant one floor below. And it's well worth the climb for a pre or post-dinner drink, or skip the meal altogether.

Seamstress bar is beautiful. There's a traditional twist to the cool decor up here, with dangling silken threads and flowers floating in cute little water bowls. The lighting is perfect; no glaring floodlights here, just a cosy, golden-suffused glow. The furniture is hardy and yet stylish all at the same time.

Settle in a leather booth and you'll soon be suffused in a golden glow too, thanks to the exceedingly well-stocked bar and ever-knowledgeable staff. Splash out on a Millionaire for a cockle-warming dose of Jamaican Rum with lime, apricot liqueur and sloe gin. Cocktail in hand, you can enjoy some of the best bar food on offer, with a distinctly modern Asian persuasion.
