For all Melbourne’s relentless, directional gluttony, it has yet to buoy a true armada of South American restaurants. San Telmo may well put this oversight to rights. Do not expect to spend a little but do expect to eat a lot. The steaks, one of the specialties of the parrilla (pronounced parisha) grill, are not undersize. There have been no short cuts, either, on the beauty of the place. Staff and surrounds are easy on the eyes. The heady, affectedly casual air that works so well in many of our leading urban restaurants dominates here. Share plates and, if you like, a little conversation at the bar.
