Rooftop Bar & Cinema

With a stunning setting high up amongst Melbourne's sparkling skyline, this bar is the perfect spot to catch a cult movie.

Editorial

Curtin House certainly is packed to the rafters with good bars. The swish surrounds of Cookie and the decadent, darkened booths of Toff make for perfect city watering holes, and make 252 Swanston Street the destination for after-work drinks. Both have their own unadulterated charm, but the real jewel in the crown, literally at the crown, is Rooftop Bar.

It may not have the glam points of its neighbouring bars downstairs, being a somewhat ramshackle, garden decking style bar on one side, and a concrete rooftop turfed with fake grass and scattered with deck chairs on the other. But wow, what a view! The seventh storey setting is right in the heart of the CBD, affording sparkling skyline views, glittering stars and buzzing with planes, helicopters and late night office workers in adjacent tower blocks!

Drinks aren't cheap, or wide-ranging, and the food on offer is fairly basic, but the surrounds make this feel like a Manhattan rooftop party. All through summer, cult movies are played on a large projector screen on the fake lawn as soon as the sun sets over the city. It's a magical movie experience right up there with all the kooky hidden secrets of Melbourne's crazy arts scene. So grab a beer, pull up a deckchair and soak it all up.
