Portland Hotel
Editorial
This hotel has had a number of incarnations, but this one is perhaps her finest. Going back to her original name was definitely a step in the right direction. Remember when this place was Santa Fe Gold? It really took anything within a 50 metre radius down a notch. Now nearby business owners are breathing a sigh of relief that The Portland is now a respectable pub with a different clientele.
The big draw card here is that it incorporates the James Squire microbrewery. The James Squire Brewhouse, as it is known, serves up the entire James Squire range and is the CBD’s only working microbrewery. The brewers lounge is a cosy, modern and comfortable place to sit and sample their ales.
While after work drinkers are embracing The Portland as a place to unwind, it’s also a good place to pick up the pace with their bevy of live entertainment. There’s live music Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and they also feature a regular comedy night on Fridays too.
For those after something tamer there are always the pool tables and for those who really want to amp it up, there’s Backstage, which is their nightclub upstairs.
Friendly service with a professional edge makes The Portland stand out from many other city pubs.
