Nirankar Indian Restaurant
Editorial
Established in 1998, Nirankar Indian Restaurant has become such a success that the need for a larger venue has resulted in a move further along Queen Street. A philosophy that “good food not only strengthens the soul but also enriches the mind and spirit” and a mission to serve Indian food in the traditional way, has resulted in the best value-for-money Indian restaurant in Melbourne, so it's no wonder they've had such success.
The diverse menu covers Indian cuisine from a variety of regions incorporating Tandoori, Balti, Tawa, Maghlai, Coastal and Southern India. Lunchtime parties can take advantage of the $25 per head Nirankar Classic banquet menu ($28 per head in the evenings) which includes onion bhajia (onions fried until crispy in chickpea batter) and chicken butter cream (a delicacy of tandoori roasted chicken in a mild tomato, butter cream sauce). A variety of banquet menu options are offered or you can choose from the a la carte menu starting with the rasam (thin lentil soup with spices and herbs and a touch of tomato puree). Follow with a hot and spicy beef vindaloo and the gulab jamun (sweet milk dumplings in sugar and rosewater syrup). A good sized wine list filled with Australian varieties offers many by the glass.
