Melbourne hipsters meet the Brothers Grimm.

Editorial

It seems as if Melbourne's CBD can never have too many bars. We just do them so well, and New Guernica is proof of this. As soon as you step into this intriguing establishment it becomes apparent a lot of thought has gone into the look of the place. It's a fairytale come to life. From the forest pathway to the indoor gazebo to the cubby house, Enid Blyton would have been happy to drink here.

Once you choose which nook or cranny to settle into for the evening, the real fun begins. The drinks menu is none too shabby at New Guernica. Cocktail jugs include either Pimms or Appletini or Cuba Libre. The wines are most pleasing with a good selection from the Mornington Peninsula, Tasmania and New Zealand's excellent offerings.

While the fantasy aspect might suggest a light-hearted and perhaps comical approach to all things, New Guernica takes its music very seriously. The coolest DJs are on board most nights, and depending on your mood, you can choose which night to come to match it. They are pretty serious about their dress code too. No suits after 9pm Tuesday and from Thursday to Saturday. No obvious surf brands and NO Ed Hardy… which will please many Melbourne punters.
