Editorial

Like Chapel Street's infamous Revolver on which this lady likely modelled her allure, this place is neither a club nor a pub. Here, we have club opening hours and, more often than not, punters in club couture. What we don't have, rather mercifully, is that high register of drink prices that distinguishes a club.

Some interior effort has been made here to assure patrons that they're spending their money on a refined experience. Mirrors and shabby genteel couches reflect the bordello feel so popular throughout this past decade. These flourishes, however, could only convince a really drunk person they're in fin-de-siecle Paris. If you're sober, you'll know you're swimming in another self-consciously cool Melbourne watering hole.

This is not to imply, by any means, that the liberated lady lacks charm. Late at night, there are few other places where coolsies might feel quite so welcome. The beats, the over-stuffed furniture and the atmosphere of tolerance can help you sink in to the morning's single digits.

And, if these assets don't work, certainly, the drink prices will keep you engaged.

Well priced beer and cheap-as-chips pizza (and possibly chips) the late night Lady serves up respite to night owls.

SM King, June 2010
