Melbourne has many an institution and this is one of them. This classic, if not a little over the top, Victorian tea room is often filled with the grey brigade (sometimes accompanied by their grandchildren) and it’s all about afternoon tea. No visit here is complete without scones jam and cream and pinwheel sandwiches. However, their real claim to fame is their vanilla slices. For sweet-tooths the Hopetoun Tea Rooms are a dream come true, and most days it’s bustling. Special occasions such as Nan’s birthday are big here, but really, it appeals to old and young alike.
