Don Don
Editorial
Don Don is seemingly determined to deliver cheap Japanese food, with maximum taste and quality in the fastest amount of time. Even if there's a queue out the door at lunchtime it's moving fast. Just like the staff inside to serve everyone.
Don Don has a simple menu focused around traditional favourites - Teriayki Don, Katsu Curry, Sashi Don and the Don Don Box (Bento) - that allows it to serve as many meals as possible. Notably it doesn't serve hand rolls.
Standing in line I heard the person in front of me as they were ordering ask, “Will it be a long wait?” The cashier smiled. It was seconds before the customer's Chicken Curry Don was bagged and handed to him. He'd obviously not been here before.
The Chicken Curry Don is not made with a bland chicken schnitzel, at Don Don's the grilled teriyaki chicken is served with the traditional spicy sauce and rice. It's simply better than others you'll buy for the same price - just like the rest of the menu options on offer. By the look of the lunch queue each day the hungry hordes are voting with their feet.
If you eat inside the air is thick with the smoky smells of the teriyaki chicken on the grill. It can be over-powering since the eating space is crammed around the service counter, seating roughly 15 customers inside. There is seating outside but most people tend to takeaway.
