Cherry Bar Music

The spiritual home of rock'n'roll in Melbourne is, of course, situated in the deepest dark and graffiti of AC/DC Lane.

Editorial

If you're the sort who only wears black, with super-tight and probably torn jeans, scruffy long hair, adorned with tattoos and always in [insert popular rock band] t-shirts, then Cherry is the home for you. And it's the rightful claimant of Melbourne's rock'n'roll crown, situated as it is in the spiritual heartland of AC/DC Lane, behind all the graffiti.

Cherry is dark, grungy and a bit crusty. And that's what makes it absolutely fantastic. It's a sexy old haunt where anything goes, and the freaks and geeks are celebrated. If you rock up at the door in suit and tie with your briefcase, expect to get knocked back by the particularly big and burly bouncers. If you revel in individuality, come on in.

The bar staff are sexy, friendly, and knowledgeable in their rock music history. Bands play regular to packed-out crowds on the sticky dance floor. DJs play alternative music to fill up any gaps. Don't expect a fancy-pants wine list and exhaustive cocktail list. What they do have is an impressive range of bottles beers, flavoured vodka shots and bourbon.

No one's going to judge you here. Well, unless you're a banker. This is the home of the wild things, and it feels great to let loose and rock out with your Jack and Coke out.
