There's something a bit ye olde world fun about the Charles Dickens, with it's dingy, lamp-lit vibe and hideous patterned curtains. For one thing, they'll tape the (proper) footy for you from back home in Blighty and play it at a sensible hour. They also have ridiculous Dickensian prices on beer during happy hour, which is well worth writing home about. As a result of the Dickens' dedication to 'soccer' and ideal city centre location, it tends to draw a big crowd of travellers, but without the gross-factor often associated with St Kilda.
