Tucked away off one of Melbourne's ubiquitous laneways, is a very smartly turned out operation that delivers serious style, a little bit of whimsy and a whole lot of cool. A collaboration of local fashionistas and stylists have added a daily changing menu to their repertoire of suits, haircuts and shoes.
The boys from Captains of Industry are “Practical Men of Wide Experience” who serve up breakfast, lunch, snacks, beverages and comestibles alongside bespoke footwear and leather accessories, traditional haircuts and made to measure menswear. It's not a new concept but in this case, it's a deliciously tempting way to peruse your way through their range of suit fabrics, grooming products, vintage ephemera and other sartorial delights.
The boys at Captains of Industry are as serious about their coffee as they are about the way they (and you) look. One of the proprietors, James, has been known to display his barista talents around town before venturing into the equally precision-orientated world of hand-crafted leather shoes. Given the quality product on offer at Captains of Industry, you may assume to receive quality coffee and the same atelier approach to their menu. This reviewers pork schnitzel roll with apple coleslaw, with a Captains ginger beer, followed by a Mars Bar crackle presented no barrier to his ability to rationalise the purchase of several items of necessity for the modern gentleman.
