Cabana Club
Editorial
Until very recently, the Cabana Club was known as Trader Bar. Its whole shtick was a fake stock market, where drink prices would go up and down based on demand. Unfortunately, the financial meltdown in the US killed off the novelty. People didn't want to drink cocktails while being reminded that their stock portfolio was worthless. With the writing (literally) on the wall, the owners ditched the stockroom decor and relaunched with a tropical cabana vibe. Or, as they describe it, "a sense of sophisticated whimsy."
As you would imagine, cabanas feature heavily in the newly fitted bar. The tent-like structures create intimate, private sanctuaries that are scattered throughout the venue. These are complimented by regular booths, floral print wallpaper and candles set in wrought iron bird cage. The look they're going for is 'cabana flavoured beach party at night' - something the venue pulls off pretty well, given its back alley, underground location.
Geared towards a more corporate crowd, the drinks menu is comprised of classic cocktails with modern twists. These all come in around the $16 to $18 mark. The wine list is reasonable and all the usual imported beers are also present and accounted for. If you're looking for a Caribbean-meets-the-Hamptons garden party vibe, then Cabana Club is well worth a visit.
