Brown Alley, Colonial Hotel

Brown Alley, hidden behind the prim facade of the Colonial Hotel, burns up the alternative club scene.

Editorial

The Colonial Hotel sounds just about as establishment as you can get, and at first glance you may think that's all you were getting. The public bar and restaurant are all old school charm with traditional pub grub and the usual line up of Aussie beers and wines, in a traditional wood and white wall layout.

However, this many layered venue mysteriously gives way to, or even magically transforms into, one of the most alternative, underground clubs in Melbourne - Brown Alley.

Brown Alley is an awesome place to be. Period. Thursday nights play host to Next - a wealth of alternative live music, from punk to ska to metal, while big name Djs often pack out the weekend club nights, featuring electro, house and breaks supremos.

Thanks to the huge and sprawling nature of the venue however, you can escape to a quiet little nook and crash out on bean bags, or make your way right up to the rooftop for some much needed fresh air. The various dance floors work different music styles, ensuring you’ll always be able to find a perch that suits you. Expect big, cool crowds for all parties, so arrive nice and early if you're buying tickets on the night.
