Bluestone Lounge Bar
Editorial
Within the Bluestone wine list, foreigners, interstate travellers and locals meet to create a small but happy union. Within the walls of Bluestone, the same could be said for the clientele. Here, assorted people congregate to create a gentle, cheerful hum.
Suited slaves to the public trade mix with share-holders, travellers who've bumped up against one of Bluestone's many positive reviews or anyone, really, ready to lay some dollars down for a decent glass of plonk in a smart basement bar.
Upstairs, find capable, contemporary nosh by chef Rob Harryman. Unstintingly good meals are served in a former woolshed which, as one would hope, features the bluestone of South East Australia.
Downstairs, find the newly renovated nook, Bluestone Lounge Bar. Proprietors have taken the sensible decision to give Melbourne's stomach what it continues to command, to wit, small Mediterranean plates.
In addition to fine tapas, find a pleasing selection of wines by the glass, professional bar staff to whom little seems a trouble and, at the time of writing, live jazz every Thursday night. If expertly bent notes in a chic underground bar are your thing, be sure to book ahead for this free weekly event.
