Blue Diamond

If Hugh Hefner mated with a Chesterfield, the result might look a little like this smooth Diamond

Editorial

If words like “elite”, “exclusive” and the entirely silly “luxe” fill you with revulsion, then you’re best to slump on the bar stool of your local and grumble about the Ruling Classes. If, however, the thought of life as it might be lived in a glossy brochure trips your trigger, you can go mining for delight at the Blue Diamond.

There is a self-congratulatory feel among the patrons here. And, that’s precisely the idea.  This penthouse-meets-clubhouse is intended to evoke a feeling of smug that hangs as long and thick in the air as do the cigar fumes on the balcony.  Naturally, there’s a humidor.   Here, you’re paying for a “select” experience and that includes the right to smoke well-crafted Cubans.

The décor is a well-ordered mishmash of periods and styles that allude to exclusivity. It’s a little deco, a little Playboy mansion and a tad fine-de-siecle salon.  Just outside the high-end hodge-podge of delight is a billion dollar view of Melbourne.

High above the ground, and high above the lumpenmass, you’ll find wine and cocktail menus of a length that only creatures of well-funded leisure might have time to read.

The drinks are grand.  The space is grand and the service is deferential.  If you can just shake the feeling that you’re in a particularly nice airport lounge full of card carrying members who all bear the “exclusive” imprimatur, you might sink in and enjoy yourself. Exclusively.

Not very happy with this place. Bar staff were arrogant and teh bar manager was very stuck up. Great views of the city but they need to work on their attitude.

great venue, very friendly staff, but the tables were all booked out and there was no-where to sit at the bar so we left after one drink. would be nice to see a little room for those who don't like to plan their nights 3 weeks ahead!
