Belgian Beer Cafe Bluestone
Editorial
Located about halfway down St Kilda Road, the Belgian Beer Café has become a legend. If the sun gets too hot for you, or if one of Melbourne's dramatic shifts of weather suddenly descends, pop inside the historic bluestone building to discover a bar and restaurant with a classic ambience of a 1920's Brussels bistro.
All your favorite Belgian beers are here including Stella Artrois, Hoegaarden, Leffe Blonde, Leffe Brune and Belle-Vue Kriek. Each beer is made in the Belgian style, with a special nine-step pouring 'ritual' that ensures the ultimate beer drinking experience, including the precision removal of excess foam, and dipping the glass into water. If you're a real aficionado of the amber fluid you can also do their famous Beer Course.
To pace yourself from all that glorious beer, choose from hearty European-style bar food. Try the steaming mussel pots (in five different broths), Belgian fries with homemade mayonnaise, salted pork belly, European BBQ right through to Flemish-style a la carte dining.
If you're coming on a Sunday, be sure to arrive early as live music sessions attract large crowds. Bands play every Sunday from 4pm to 7pm, with a mix of jazz, Latin and swing bands. Check out their website for Sunday Sessions band listings.
