Bar Lourinha
Editorial
Melbourne exists for bars like Lourinha. It’s the sort of place that typifies everything that is known to be hot about our cool city. In this unpretentious setting, you will discover a rare treasure of a drinks list and an untypical menu of small dishes that hail largely from Spanish influences.
What may appear to the untrained eye as kitschy décor is better described as, in this reviewer’s opinion, supremely stylish. The rear of the bar is temple-like, featuring a long row of exotic liquors that provide a base plate for a collection of well considered ephemera that forms the backdrop for the sea of customers that flood in every day (except Sunday).
Cocktails such as Punch di Fiamma (Campari, Limoncello, Motenegro, watermelon, mint & lemon. Shaken) or Tinto Verano (pink wine, Baines, lemon juice, mint & lemonade) range from $12- $18. Spanish fortified wines, Italian, Japanese and Scottish digestives, French, Italian and Spanish brandies and an equally globally-broad selection of beers make up a drinks list that may well lead you on a merry march toward a very decadent night out if you’re so inclined!
To add delicious to decadent, Bar Lourinha dishes up a selection of frequently changing seasonal small plates that average at around $12. Daily-changing lunch specialties such a Monday lamb, Tuesday chorizo, Wednesday paella, Thursday goat or Friday fish represent great value and great flavour, but book ahead. It’s crowed, it’s noisy and it’s all happening at Bar Lourinha, but don’t take my word for it. Go see for yourself.

Just went here for lunch. The chickpea & spinach dish is AMAZING, closely followed by the massive mound of mussels and the chorizo. The portions are large, four was heaps for 2 people. The waygu beef was probably the only dish that didnt stack up.

I am spanish, so finding an authentic restaurant is an important thing for me. I miss home so much! Lourinha serves real spanish recipes, and the prices are much more affordable than at other spanish restaurants in the city. You can't miss the chorizo sausage, the mushrooms, and have a glass of sweet cherry.

Marvellous tapas. I don't think you can go wrong. But the place is small so getting a table can be a matter of timing. Be early for either the first wave (6pm) or second wave (8pm).
