Bar Humbug
Editorial
From the outside Bar Humbug is nothing much, just a doorway in the brickwork amongst the grey city. It’s inside where the magic happens. A really warm, inviting and convivial vibe greets you as you step inside. I’m not sure if it’s the warm down lights, the minimalist wood tables, exposed brickwork, or the chocolate benches, there’s just something so homey about this place that makes you want to stay awhile.
The clientele is a mixture of corporate and creative professionals, but with a distinctly local vibe. Uber chic and urban as it is, this little bar is definitely not highbrow - you can catch the latest AFL game here on the weekends with your mates and make a day of it.
A real emphasis on high quality wines is evident at the bar. Choose from Australian and NZ drops, with a decent representation of international labels from France and Italy. To take the edge of the cold winds of a Melbourne winter I’d suggest something like a 2004 Kid You Not Tempranillo Graciano from Heathcote. Local beers include Carlton Draught and Little Creatures Bright Ale on tap, and a wider range in bottles including the popular Fat Yak Pale Ale. Imports include all your favorites like Corona, Sapporo, Peroni and Guinness.
For the peckish there’s plenty to choose from, and Bar Humbug is where you’d just as well come for dinner as for a drink. I dived into the tuna steak and was not disappointed by the best protein hit I’ve had in months. Seriously hearty and satisfying. Lighter options include potato, leek and fetta croquettes, or grilled calamari salad.

Fantastic bar / eatery. A great spot for lunch, and a place to go after the game at the dome. Try the burger there!
