Anglers Tavern
Editorial
The weekend in particular is particularly cruisy on the banks of the Maribyrnong, and this is one of the precious few spots in Melbourne to relay take advantage of the waterfront locale. Things can get pretty busy, especially on hot summer eves and weekends in general, so book ahead if you want to eat in the bistro. There are TAB facilities if you fancy a flutter.
The tap beer and Australian wine list is pretty decent, and the grub focuses on good pub standards, although seafood isn't as prevalent as you might expect with a name like the Anglers tavern. However, a smart oyster bar addition to the venue adds a touch of class. Prices are fairly reasonable here, as are the portions, and private functions are welcomed. The great setting certainly makes for a special celebration.
The crowd takes in all sorts, from the young, cool, uni trendsetters to families with young kids, and the odd footy player can be spotted from time to time. As it's close to Flemington, expected the suited and booted and hats and fascinator crowd over racing season. All in all, this is an ideal venue for lazing with friends on a Sunday afternoon.

The bistro was dirty, air-conditioning didn't work, the food is ridiculously over priced and the portion sizes are appalling. No wonder the Anglers has turned into a ghost town...yet you still have to wait for half an hour to get a drink!

what happened to this place? food average and very very overpriced. nearly 14 dollars for 3 tiny pieces of bruschetta. Tacky decor with wobbly tables - took staff 10 minutes to bring some tomato sauce to the table!

we went for my sons birthday and I rang ONE hour before the booking time to inform them I had 2 extra which they said was fine. On arrival they had NO record of my booking so we had to help set up tables and chairs for 21 of us. We waiting an hour for our meals, however mine did not arrive, I was told it would be a little while longer and just not to stress. Everyone had finished their meals and I went and asked where my meal was only to be told that my chicken had been cooked but on plating it they realised "the chicken was off' SO they sent someone to another Castello hotel to pick some up. AT this stage I refused my meal, not wanting a meal that would be trasported in a car.! When it came for the birthday cake, they had NO CUTTLERY saying the cuttlery was all dirty, so we had to eat our cake with our fingers! OUR neighbours were sick that night, yes they had the chicken! The service was apalling, the staff were not interested! Toilets were putrid!

This place is a joke. Bad service, No TAB facilities, No Oyster Bar, fried seafood selection only and the place is falling apart - tables all wobby, toilets a mess, cigarettes all over the outside tables. How about instead of letting the staff stand and do nothing - get them cleaning! what a joke
