Skinny Dog Hotel

A local favourite in Kew, the Skinny Dog hotel may be named after a pup that nobody wanted, but it's nothing more than an hospitable pub.

Editorial

Skinny Dog is the kind of pub you want to go to after a hard day at the grind. It's a no-frills hotel with big screens for sports, plenty of beers on tap, a beer garden with its own bar (perfect for when you don't want to move from your seat) and live music on weekends. Sure, the Dog offers pretty much what you'd find at many other pubs, but the location - right in the crossroads of Kew central - makes it the ideal place to stop in on the way home or out.

The main bar, or sports bar, is home to various pool tables, a few arcade machines and enough plasma screens that you never need turn your head to catch the game. You'll also find a fine amount of tap beers here, from Carlton Draught and Pure Blonde, to Asahi, Boag's Draught and more. You can also get a similar range of brews in the beer garden, plus a whole heap more in the fridges. To go with your bistro meal there's a thorough list of wines; mostly Australian, but all modestly priced.

The Dog has also picked up the odd award for their bistro meals, such as the calamari salad - with calamari so tender it melts in your mouth - or the steak burger, with caramelised onions and mushroom sauce.

Had the Parma. Bread crumbs were not done properly underneath and were overdosed with herbs. One of the largest sized parmas I've ever had though! We also had the chips and salad with a side of fish! It should've been the other way around. 5/10.
