Pepper

Serving a delicious range of breakfast, lunch and dinner, Pepper is the perfect place to stop off and keep the hunger at bay. Pepper's signature breakfasts include: The Breakfast of Champions – an egg and bacon feast with all the trimmings. The Peppers Breakfast – a delicious combination of smoked salmon, tomatoes, spinach all served on a homemade potato latke with relish, a brunch favourite!

Editorial

You know that you have uncovered something good when a cafe is buzzing at 8am on a weekday. It's too early and too far off the main street to be anything other than a local haunt. Once the local newsagent, and before that the Girdwood Hygienic Library (look for the sign above the door), this cafe is right at home amid the local, eclectic history of Flemington.

The day begins early with breakfast and continues late into the evening. Tie the dog to the outside bench like everyone else and start your day with the breakfast for champions: a generous plate of free-range eggs, bacon, sauteed mushrooms and grilled tomatoes. A lunch menu of foccacias will satisfy any hunger, as will something from the specials board like the smoked chicken salad with nectarine and toasted hazelnuts. If you have the children in tow, order from the kids menu.

Opposite Newmarket Station, Pepper is the great place for dinner. Begin with a plate for two, and follow with the sweet potato, coriander and onion tart. There is a limited but satisfactory wine list. The menu changes every six weeks. Relax and enjoy being local, before ambling home.
