A home away from home, this hotel serves hearty pub grub in a comfortably modest setting. From a scotch fillet to the stalwart parmigiana, the prices suit the meanest budget.

Editorial

The Rose Hotel is a pub's pub; equipped with the characteristics of the old-school, local watering hole that are becoming harder and harder to find within the inner suburbs of big cities. Nestled between Fitzroy and Collingwood's Brunswick and Smith Streets, The Rose Hotel opened in 1960 and has maintained a strong, loyal and regular crowd of punters and families, young and old. Its U-shaped bar swings passed two large Foxtel televisions that play all the sport (usually AFL) that one could dream up, while the back atrium area provides an area away from the traditional pub atmosphere, perfect for families or a quiet dinner for two. The delightful staff bend over backwards for visitors, who are always treated like guests in their home, upholding a local, friendly atmosphere.

The Rose's cheap and tasty menu offers Fitzroy's student population shelter from the cold. The cheesy Parma is as big as your head but won't cost an arm and a leg, while a handy salad selection is also served up in hefty portions. Top it all off with a bargain bottle of house red for $14, and how can you really go wrong?
