Revel in your time at the Revellers Bar North in the heart of Fitzroy.

Editorial

Located on the buzzy Johnston street strip amongst Spanish Tapas restaurants, with the sound of flamenco dancers drifting out of open windows to the street below is the Revellers Bar North. A newcomer bar on this strip, Revellers took over the space that was for many years inhabited by The Laundry and has some pretty big shoes to fill.

The revamped, yet still quite cavernous band room features an eclectic mix of rock, punk, blues'n'roots artists. The sound system has been re-jigged for improved sound, so this bar is set to re-establish itself as a prime venue for live music. Downstairs in the Revel Room, it's all about the F-U-N-K and rock'n'roll. DJs after the bands play retro 50's music to 70-80-90's disco. Regular theme nights abound, like the recent Glam Rock Part;, a great night for reuniting with the KISS army no doubt. Wednesday nights are for Swing Dancing classes. For regular listings check out the MySpace page.

Beers on tap include Carlton, Stella, Pure Blond, Fat Yak, Bulmers Cider, plus the usual suspects in bottles. House special cocktails include the Revellers infamous signature 'tail 'Mark-e-Mark' - a pint-sized blue concoction with mostly secret ingredients, but they do tell me it has a good hit of Red Bull, blue Curacao and peach schnapps. Yeah, probably not for the faint-hearted. And if you're feeling brave though, dip a toe into 'The Drink Formerly Known as the Particularly Refreshing Beverage', which is represented by a symbol of an afro headed dude doing a karate chop move. To order this drink you don't even have to speak, just rock up the bar and make like the Karate Kid and you will be rewarded.

This is one of those venues where the music makes the vibe. It is a local (Fitzroy) place where you can encounter many of the same faces. The door staff seems intimidating but they are actually quite friendly. The atmosphere is dark and reminds me of university bars. But I think the main draw is the music. An interesting thing about this venue is it often takes risk and brings nights that may not be popular but are often fun and new. My main gripe with this venue is the bar staff, they often remove your drinks before you have had time to finish them. This has been my experience and that of many of my friends. So I suggest you go to the Laundry for the music and drink else where.
