Perseverance Hotel

The Perseverance Hotel is a pretension-free slice of Fitzroy, just add beer.

Editorial

The Perseverance Hotel brings a little slice of Chapel Street north of the Yarra. Instead of the typical grungy types and indie bands you might find loitering around Brunswick Street, the crowd and music at the Perseverance are distinctly more mainstream. Wonder in on the weekend and you'll find a selection of Top 40 hits being played to a mix of students and people unwittingly stuck in Fitzroy.

While the target demographic is a little different to the competition, the Perseverance is still a pub at heart. Wander in during the day and it's reassuringly old-school; a bastion of unpretentious pub meals, cheap jugs of local beer, friendly staff and a beer garden. The drink selection is exactly what you'd expect and is based around a good selection of local and imported beers. Basic spirits and wines are also on offer but only the brave or foolhardy would ask for a cocktail.

While it doesn't break any new ground, the Perseverance does provide a welcome alternative to Fitzroy's more grungy elements. If you're sick of indie bands and hipsters, this is the polar opposite - top 40 music and a come-as-you-are attitude by night, relaxed pub atmosphere during the day.
