Palookaville
Editorial
With its comfortable couches, recycled furnishings, pool table and relaxed attitude, you can walk into Palookaville any time and feel right at home. Bearing a resemblance to an old American saloon, and with rustic touches such as the faux weatherboard house towards the back, it’s an inviting place to idle away a few hours. The menu is a straightforward one, but you are guaranteed a good, reasonably priced meal every time, whether you choose a well-cooked steak or parma, tempura of King George whiting, saganaki or Moroccan spiced lamb. They do a mean weekend breakfast too, and Palookaville may very well serve the best chips in town – thick, hand cut and perfectly cooked.
While Wednesday’s $10 steak night used to be a drawcard, Palookaville now offers $10 meals all week, and they are great value, with no skimping on size or quality. Touches like these make this eatery a great pub alternative. You can head down here for a few pots, sink some pool and have a cheap, tasty meal any night of the week. Free live music six nights a week might see you enjoying a low-key, local blues, rock or folk performance, and the gallery space upstairs is also available as a private function room.
