Kanela Melbourne's only flamenco restaurant-tapas bar that is dedicated to the art of flamenco is run by the family of two of the countries leading flamenco artists, Richard Tedesco and brother Johnny Tedesco. It has become an institution among local flamenco aficionados , International touring companies (Fura del Baus, Bolero Flamenco), and Australian celebrities (Kate Cerbrano, The Cat “Sol y Sombra” Empire) for its quality of performances.

Editorial

Run by two of the countries leading flamenco artists, Richard and Johnny Tedesco, Kanela Flamenco Bar is a unique place for the brothers to showcase their talents while serving mouth-watering traditional tapas and Spanish cuisine. Situated on Fitzroy's Johnston Street, Kanela offers nightly performances and houses a performing arts studio upstairs, where the flamenco dancers of the future master their craft. Choose to sit at the bar sipping Spanish beer while munching on tapas, or in the restaurant where the dim lights cast a warm red glow in anticipation of the impending performance.
The speciality at Kanela is tapas: small Spanish savoury dishes which offer a flexible way of dining and are ideal for sharing. Alternatively, opt for their equally popular paella: a traditional Spanish dish of rice, saffron, chicken and seafood which is cooked slowly in a large shallow cast-iron pan. Once again the idea is to share this dish, ideally with up to six friends. Whatever you choose to dine on, Kanela's Spanish chefs strive to use the freshest available ingredients. Kanela offers a wide range of Spanish wines and beers along with a selection of cocktails and my drink of choice: red wine sangria.

Very dissapointed, I wanted to book a table for 15 people for a birthday. Only to be told that a set menu applies at $45.00 per head for 8 people or more!

Sam, anyone in the restaurant trade will tell you that at table of 15 party-goers with individual orders can tie up all the wait staff, leaving the other customers crying out for service. Set menus for large groups are an intelligent and expedient way of ensuring ALL customers receive their meals in a timely fashion.

Great paella, sangria, tapas and the most incredible flamenco performers I have ever seen. Everyone should experience a night at Kanela. Feel the Spanish culture from everywhere.
