Ici
Editorial
Removed from the bustle of Brunswick Street, and therefore a long-time local favourite, Ici maintains its relaxed French bistro vibe. The new winter menu still adheres to the same basic principles - a commitment to quality ingredients, with many organic, gluten-free and vegan options. This is simple food, but done well, with great flavour and texture combinations. Tofu is scrambled with miso and white beans, then topped with beetroot relish and spinach. For something sweet, try the gluten-free home-made banana bread with yoghurt and mixed berries. Freshly squeezed juices, teas and organic, rainforest alliance coffee round out the menu, and there's also a small bar selection for those who require something a little stronger with their brunch.
Inside is narrow and cosy and great for sitting in the window with a coffee and a muffin from an ever-changing selection. Daily specials include paninis, chicken soup and there's also the usual eggs and extras, but it's oh-so-much nicer when the extras include organic lamb sausage or home-made chilli jam. Laid back service gives you plenty of space - it's not the place for those in a hurry. Ici is great for relaxed weekend brunching, whether catching up with friends or simply sitting on your own in the sun enjoying the paper and a good latte.

This is my local breakfast place, and has a great relaxed feel. Outside, little tables line on the footpath along the bluestone wall, and inside there is wooden panelling and a lovely long wood bar. They do serve a great latte, and my favourite menu item is the French toast, which is very luscious.
