Dante's Fitzroy
Editorial
An appealingly cluttered place on the corner of Napier Street and overlooking Gertrude Street, Dante's is a favourite Fitzroy meeting spot. Whether you are looking for a drink at the bar, a meal in the cosy dining room or some local art in the back performance space or the upstairs gallery, there is something to please everyone. With a variety of collectibles, vintage posters, toys and mannequins adorning the walls, walking into the front bar area feels more like you've entered an antique shop than a local eatery - it has a quiet, relaxed and welcoming ambience that makes you feel immediately comfortable whether you are there in a large group or alone.
Menu-wise, Dante's offers a variety of options from big breakfasts on the weekend, to quiet glasses of wine to accompany some gallery hopping on any day of the week. There's a decent selection of tapas, pizzas and snacks available all day, and lunch and dinner sees more substantial fare in the form of Euro-oriented plates. Dante's also runs a mean steak. Take some time to peruse the walls upstairs - there's usually something interesting on show (although you could just as easily spend hours gazing at what is many years' worth of collecting on the walls downstairs).
