Woodstock Cafe
Editorial
Eating at Woodstock is a bit like visiting your nonna. As you enter, the smell of baking dough greets you, whetting your appetite if you weren't already hungry. Plain blue gingham cloths, terrazzo floors, a baby Fiat and tables of cheerful people form a noisy backdrop to the thin-crusted creations that emerge from the oven. This family run restaurant is always busy, often chaotic, with all members of the family roped in to make coffee, serve wine and organise your bill. It may be more expensive than most other pizza places and the service is often slow, but the experience is totally authentic.
The food is straightforward, although a daunting choice of 21 pizze is on offer - from vegetarian options such as the fior di latte, chicory, gorgonzola and lemon to meatier fare such as the ever-popular ba-da-bing, with chilli, tomato, hot salami and anchovies. Hawaiian is very strictly NO ham, NO pineapple; instead, a delicious combination of tomato, cheese, hot salami and roasted peppers. If they don't have quite what you want, the kitchen will obligingly make up something special and equally tasty such as bresaola, rocket and pecorino. Other daily specials might include gnocchi gorgonzola or squid ink spaghetti, grilled snapper or calamari, or veal cutlets. There's a modest range of Italian and Australian wines and beers, and BYO is also available at $10 corkage per bottle. Nonna may not slap you with a bill at the end of your meal, but that's about the only difference from this old-school Italian dining experience.

Meals arrived one and a half hours after ordering. The owner was unbeleivably, and unwarrantedly, rude and abusive when he delivered our meals. A pity really, because the pizzas were good, if too expensive - $24 plus, for a pizza that feeds one adult. Would never go back because of the service.

Some of the Best Pizza in Melbourne. Gnocchi is like eating clouds is so good. You have to be able to appreciate the fact that this is a *family* run restaurant. Its not some flash posh place; don't expect it to be. Just enjoy the food because its really good.

Incredibly rude service, and made a mistake on the order as well. Too expensive for what it is, home style italian food. Mediocre food, pizza's are bland and boring. Not enough choice.
