Growers Espresso

We source coffees which profile a region and are distinctive on their own as a single origin (or single estate), in addition to our popular blends. Our appreciation and knowledge of every stage of the coffee cycle, from plantation to cup, dictates our philosophy that coffee is one of life's great pleasures, to be savoured, respected and valued.

Editorial

Melbournites have always taken their coffee seriously. We like to think it's what sets us apart from our neighbouring states, and just as it looked like some capital cities were catching up, Melbourne coffee aficionados have taken it one step further and on-site roasting is now positively de rigueur.

Growers, like any café who roasts on the premises takes their coffee especially seriously. While they specialise in Australian beans, they have also broadened their horizons to include fair-trade and organic coffees from countries such as Indonesia, East Timor and PNG. The house blend is slightly bitter, so for those who like a smoother brew the joy will be in making your way through the considerable menu.

This is a laid-back place which is great if you want to escape the high energy vibe of some nearby establishments. Out front there's window seating as well as low tables and chairs. Browns and avocado greens create a simple and earthy palate and out the back there's the roasting room and the fire room, however, a makeover is imminent with the changes expected to start over the next few months. For those who prefer to take their coffee al fresco there are several outdoor tables.

The menu is simple. Toasted sandwiches on organic sourdough, baked free range eggs, frittata, muesli and freshly baked muffins make up the bulk of the offerings. There's also a selection of sweet treats such as baklava, the perfect coffee accompaniment.
