Jelosia Cafe
Editorial
Enter the sweet world of Jelosia when you enjoy its delicious, lovingly-created cakes and gelati. This well-established wholesale business has now opened its doors to the dining public and what was once the factory and showroom also serves as an attractive cafe where you can not only purchase special occasion cakes but also sample most of the wares on-site. The owners have created a small, charming space complete with sunny courtyard in which to enjoy the wide range of indulgent desserts and excellent coffee. Sweets are the main event here but the cafe is open for breakfast and lunch, offering a modest selection of authentic Italian fare.
Jelosia’s gelato and patisserie recipes have been passed down from generation to generation, with some dating back as far as 1902, and the shop has offered its sweets for more than 18 years. As well as the finest imported Italian cakes and desserts, locally-made creations by pastry chef Jose Jorge Mendonca (who boasts training from Harrods) present more luscious choices. With award-winning flavours like caramelised quince and roasted almond, salted cashew nut and chai latte, the gelati are particularly worth making a trip to Fairfield for. Locals also enjoy the continental cakes, such as the traditional Italian cake layered with liqueur-soaked sponge, cream and chocolate and vanilla custard or the “bianco e nero”, cream- and custard-filled profiteroles smothered in chocolate hazelnut cream.
