There was time when Mexican food captured the imagination of just the few, leaving cuisines such as Thai or Vietnamese to entice diners to new and exciting flavours. Mexican restaurants seemed to plod along, never managing to catch the foodie wave to any great acclaim – until now. While the Hacienda is far from being at the vanguard of Mexican cuisine springing up over Melbourne, it’s an original. Hacienda has certainly been around long enough to know all the tricks of Mexican food, while keeping well-clear of the fancy fusions and faux foodie liberties being tried on by those caught up on this new-wave of Mexican out there.
