Elsternwick Hotel

One of the more graceful pubs to line busy Brighton Road, the Wick, as locals know it, has stuck to traditions and is great for those punters who like their pub to be just a pub.

Editorial

The Elsternwick is a big old pub just opposite the golf course on the corner of Glen Huntly and Brighton Roads. The Wick is popular with locals who want a decent pub meal and is a hit with the fellas who like to watch their sport while enjoying a flutter on TAB.

The venue is divided into a main bar and bistro area, and the popular sports tavern next door with pool tables, sports TVs, Sports TAB and a few pokies. There's also a drive through bottleshop next to the tavern and heaps of parking spaces out back that you can access from Glen Huntly Road.

The bistro offers more traditional table seating, which is good for families, while the menu is a mix of traditional pub food like parmas and bangers 'n' mash, and some more European style pastas and specials like prawn agnolotti or Aegean chicken. The mains average around $20. There's also a chargrill menu offering a range of steaks, a selection of salad sides and mains and some decent entrees. Meals can also be served in the tavern, so you don't need to go far if you're playing pool with mates or glued to a live coverage match on TV.

It's great to see that not every pub in town has been renovated and lost that old style pub feel. The drinks are still cheap, the crowd is very laidback and friendly, and you can also try out your luck at weekly trivia night.
