If you were one of the many Australians glued to the television during the Winter Olympics, then you'll already know the allure of ice skating. Graceful, challenging and exhilarating, ice skating is a great way to exercise - and it's a lot more fun than a walk around your local park!

Whether you're a seasoned skater seeking training facilities, a parent looking for that special somewhere to host a truly memorable birthday party, or even if you've never ice-skated before, Melbourne's newest sporting facility, The Icehouse, is ready to meet your every need.

Since opening its doors in February 2010, The Icehouse has become Australia's premier ice sports and entertainment venue, offering programs to support fans and participants of ice hockey, speed skating, curling and figure skating. There's also social skating, with everything from Friday night's '80s Countdown' to Sunday's R&B nights on offer.

After gliding across the ice you can relax and refuel in the Igloo Café, and soon you'll be able to cap off a social session on the ice with a well-deserved cocktail in the about-to-open St Moritz Bar.

Nor do you have to be a grown-up to have all the fun. In the school holidays, The Icehouse is catering for kids aged three and upwards who want to learn to skate, with access to top-class skating facilities across two Olympic-sized rinks, as well as trainers who'll have you whizzing across the ice in no time. Plus, during Easter the 'Ice Bunny' skates right alongside you, giving away Easter eggs and running games and on-ice activities for all.

Strap on your skates and hit the ice - it's the cool thing to do this autumn!
