Editorial

If you’re after traditional Japanese fare this might not be your first choice of venue but if you’re after a more modern take with innovative dishes and unique tastes then look no further than Kobe Jones. In a prime Docklands position with waterfront views of Bolte Bridge and the Melbourne city skyline this is where eastern spices and the Californian flavours of the west collide.

The extensive menu offers fresh and light options including a selection of Kobe Jones’ signature dishes which are an absolute must. Start with the number one special (crab salad with avocado wrapped in snapper and baked with KJ’s cream sauce), or the oyster shooter (a trio of oyster shooters each with their own distinct flavour). Kobe rolls, like the crunchy roll of tempura-battered prawns with crab salad and cucumber layered with tempura flakes and smelt roe, are also offered. Follow with a main of whole-grilled baby snapper with miso citrus sauce served with miso soup and rice, or the green tea salmon (seared smoked salmon marinated in green tea with nori cream). Finish with the kanpai trifle (sake infused trifle with marinated cherries in jelly). The wine list comprises a tempting selection of Australian varieties and sake imports.

been to this joint 3 times. only 1st time good. 2nd time, was told entertainment card discount has been changed to 20% but later found out that staff was incorrect. 3rd and last time (wanted to give it a fair chance), had 15 people with reservation and was told that 2for1 tuesday was any main course. there is no 'main course' heading in the menu and only after ordering, waiting for food did the staff highlight 'as a matter of fact sir, did u know that...'none of your orders (totaling ~$500) qualifies for 2for1. also called this morning to ask if it was BYO and the corkage charge (if any). Was told yes to BYO and charges were $4per pax. i even clarified if it only applied to drinkers, answer was yes. when we arrived, immediately was told no BYO and half accusing me of making up an impossible story. asked for manager, same arrogant stand. Kobe Jones...lies after lies, even with good food...I hope your owners realizes your deceptive ways!

Disappointed - Went with my family last week on Tuesday night. My daughters birthday we were looking for this night. After browsing docklands we were hungry and ready to eat. We end up here. We asked the waiters for suggestions on an entree so we wanted to try japanese food - he said to order a main and shred it (what's that). My daughter ordered WAGYU TENDERLOIN TATAKI seared beef tenderloin served with garlic, ginger ponzu sauce , which turned out to be 5 skinny small pieces with garlic, (the plate it looks like it was an entree for a 2 yrs old kid)$38.00. I saw my daughters face - I was going to complaint but they didn't let me.

The same happenned with my chcicken dish. I ordered some steam rice to shared for the 4 of us, on the menu the price was $7.00. The waiter brougth us 4 small bowl with rice - one each (I said in mind for $7.00 it is ok) they end up charging me $4.00 for each bowl which I didn't order. Finally my wife ordered BBQ king Prawns $39.00 they were way over cooked, they looked burnt - presentation was awful. I can do better than and no flavour at all. That night we were served the worst food I've ever eaten. It was tasteless and no enough. There was no flavour and appearance was not tempting at all. We love dinning out and this is the first time that I leave a restaurant frustrated, angry and all of us hungry. The bill $181.00. Overall I will not be dining there ever again and I I won’t recommended this restaurant to anyone.
