Proud Mary
Editorial
Melbourne's coffee Gods have reached their verdict. Proud Mary has been bestowed a grand prize - a position amongst the greats. There is a new wave of serious coffee appreciation that is consuming Melbourne and Proud Mary is where the devotees come to pray. Following in the steps of the gentrification boom that is underway in the back streets of Collingwood's industrial heart, Proud Mary has grabbed a prime corner position in a former warehouse site and built a reputation as one of Melbourne's most sought after café destinations.
Well suited to its contemporary warehouse conversion interior are the inner-urbanites who flock in droves for their regular dose of coffee-chic. Expect busy, noisy and plenty of cruise worthy scenery. There are some heavy duty coffee dispensing facilities at Proud Mary in the form of a six-group Synesso coffee machine, cold drip, Clover, syphon, French press and filter methods that dispense a variety of blends and single origins, all from 5 Senses.
An all-day breakfast features organic toasts from Dench Bakery ($6) and Bircher muesli ($12) or for the more exotic taste-bud, Mary's Baked Figs ($14). Lunches ($9 - $16.50) are beautifully configured affairs that are well worth the visit. This reviewer was unable leave the Pork Belly sandwich ($15.50) alone.
Mary should be proud indeed!
