Blue Velvet Bar & Nightclub
Editorial
There is something a little David Lynch about this bar. The dark mystique, the dedication to art, or maybe it’s just the name. Let’s face it, ever since that seminal 1986 film it is impossible to hear the words blue and velvet together and not picture Mr Dennis Hopper. This bar is more than its namesake however, in fact, there’s not much this place can’t do. You see with the myriad of events and functions on offer, Blue Velvet can really be anything you want her to be.
Many venues boast of their chameleon abilities but few can truly deliver. By its sheer popularity its looks as though Blue Velvet is coming up with the goods. There’s two fully stocked bars, three function rooms, a commercial kitchen, dance floor, beer garden and a gallery. The venue can be hired out in its entirety or most of the areas, such as the gallery, can be hired out separately.
Besides the numerous birthday parties, work functions, anniversaries and hen’s nights that fill Blue Velvet’s calendar there is also a host of performance nights. ‘Heresy’, (a goth, fetish, glam, uniform, pvc, latex, punk party!), is the latest addition to take over their Friday nights. This is a great reminder that Collingwood is, thankfully, still clinging onto its alternative roots, and that Smith Street’s edge is not just a symptom of illegal activity.
Blue Velvet also has a good range of local and overseas wines and beers and catering can be provided for any size function.

This place is an absolute joke. They charged us $6 for a pot of coke (yes you heard that right), and the barmaid is a psychopath that was threatening my partner even though my partner had not even looked at or talked to her. Seriously unbalanced! plus the karaoke they had there was an absolute joke. Avoid this place for a function at all costs!
