Queensberry Hotel
Editorial
With five separate areas to choose from, you're sure to find somewhere that suits your taste, whether you're looking for a quiet drink or a rowdy ol' time with your mates. The very grand main bar is a big open space catering for large crowds. The Snug Bar and The Side are cosy intimate areas perfect for a quiet drink and chat among leather couches and subdued lighting. There are two outdoor areas: The Courtyard, which is partially undercover, and the newly-built upstairs deck, with your standard beer garden décor of chunky wooden tables and chairs, has a friendly vibe and really fills up when the weather is good.
As you'd expect from a student pub, the drinks are aplenty, no frills and reasonably priced. Beers on tap include their own brew Queensberry Draught, Carlton Draft, Stella Artois, Carlsberg, Fat Yak, Pure Blonde and Cascade. Nothing too fancy here. There's a fairly basic wine list with that super-nasty 'Yellow' sparkling - don't do it girls, the hangover is not worth it - maybe opt instead for the Trilogy Pinot Noir Chardonnay from Barossa Valley for a change of pace.
If you don't listen to me and do the 'Yellow' anyway, make sure you tuck into some hearty pub grub like Mediterranean Chicken Bruschetta, or Chicken Parma for $15 to help you survive lectures the next morning. The food here is not as cheap as you'd expect, but there are specials on Wacky Wednesdays with $12 steaks, parmas and pasta, to accompany your $10 jugs of beer and $5 wines/sparkling and basic spirits.
