Lavish Modern Cuisine
Editorial
When husband and wife team, Fadi and Connie Rachkidi took over the Vue de Monde site they had big shoes to fill. Initially they'd planned to continue the fine dining concept but it soon became apparent that Carlton diners had other ideas. So instead Lavish came to be a modern international eatery leaning towards Italian cuisine. Prices were dropped but the quality remained as the duo headed back to basics offering fresh and affordable food. An ongoing lunch menu boasts a $7.90 selection, like the balsamic calamari salad inclusive of either a glass of wine or soft drink.
Fadi can be found in the kitchen cooking the food he's a lot more comfortable with. For entree try the stuffed vine leaves served on a bed of lettuce. For main sample the porterhouse or eye fillet from the grill served with chips and either vegetables or salad, or share the seafood platter of prawns, Moreton bay bugs, oysters, mussels, octopus and blue swimmer crab. For dessert there's the caramelised pears crowned with frangelico cream and finished with strawberry coulis. The wine list is simple and affordable with bottled beers and basic spirits also on offer.
