IL Vicolo Courtyard Restaurant has earned its reputation as a favourite venue to dine in this busy Italian quarter. Rising from oak-lined Grattan Street, this traditional double-storey terrace opens to reveal a contemporary blend of wood, chrome and glass matched by modern-day dedication to service and presentation.

Editorial

So named for the enclosed laneway that once led to the local butcher and baker, Il Vicolo offers exceptional Italian fare in a relaxed contemporary environment. Situated in a double storey terrace, this Carlton eatery is a firm favourite in the busy Italian quarter with many choosing to dine in the famed stained-glass covered courtyard. Upstairs is a function room catering to both small and large parties, casual or formal, or there's the equally comfortable main dining area.

Ex-Mietta's chefs Fred Chalupa and Paul Di Deo have put together a menu that's a mix of traditional favourites and modern fancies. Value plus is the Carlton lunch: $19 gets you two courses and a glass of wine or for a further $4 you can choose all three courses. Alternatively, choose from the a la carte menu. For entree sample the traditional style antipasto "Il Vicolo" or the char-grilled salt and pepper squid. Follow with milk-fed veal scaloppini al fungi with field mushrooms, white wine, aromatic herbs and a rich veal sauce. Daily specials are also available such as the tomato and zucchini risotto. Finish with the chocolate Kahlua souffle with vanilla bean ice-cream.

A large selection of premium local and imported wines is offered along with beers, spirits and liqueurs.
