Abla's

places|vic|carlton|abla's
There aren't that many restaurants in this old town, or anywhere else for that matter, that have been going strong for well over 30 years now, but Abla's in Carlton can comfortably secure entry to that VIP club. Serving unrivalled traditional Lebanese cuisine, Alba's rules the Elgin Street roost, with the lady at the heart of it all, Abla Amad, keeping the crowds flocking for years. You can even buy her cook book and steal her top tips if you like, but it won't taste as good as the top notch fare served up with love and care in here. Something of a local legend, she's been heartily feeding the masses since 1979, and long may her reign continue.

Came to Abla's with huge expectations - and was let down a little. Service was great, as was the homely feel of the dining room, but the price suggests you're in for some sort of fine dining experience or unique twist on traditional cuisine. It's basically home Lebanese cooking, which if you haven't experienced, I'd highly recommend coming here. If you've eaten good home cooked Lebanese, I'd suggest you've already experienced Abla's.
