The Carlton Paragon Cafe
Editorial
On the corner of Rathdowne and Newry Streets overlooking the evergreen Curtain Square, a beehive of child and family-friendly activities on weekends, sits Cafe Paragon. On first glance this cafe may not appear particularly striking, however delve a little further and you'll take in the beautiful low hanging lights, European-feel bistro layout and gorgeous prints that adorn the walls. Outside is a line of tables, first in first served, that are continually being turned over by busy punters.
Breakfast is served until noon with all the usual favourites offered, or hold your appetite for something a little heartier like the eggplant focaccia: marinated eggplant, roasted capsicum, basil pesto and tasty cheese served with perfectly cooked wedges and salad. For dinner, or a larger lunch, start with an entree of garlic or herb focaccia, or perhaps the soup of the day. Follow with the Paragon risotto: braised chicken with spring onions, semi sun-dried tomatoes and a sprinkling of parmesan cheese, or perhaps the Paragon gnocchi: pan-fried gnocchi with prosciutto, tomato, and sage butter sauce, finished with French style brie. Alternatively try the castolette d'agnello: roasted lamb rack with lyonnaise potatoes, roasted vegetables and thyme jus. Cafe Paragon is fully licensed with a decently sized wine list.
