Gerald's Bar
Editorial
Many will be utterly charmed by this slightly anarchic, first-rate nook. There is something that is wonderfully irregular about the place. The mismatched décor may not be to everyone’s taste. Nor will the somewhat unique approach to ordering wine; here, the by-the-glass menu is determined by the first customers to order every day. This drives a few hard-nosed buffs mad.
But, if you like a little gentle chaos, this den might ease you into the night. It’s a great drink stop on the way, for example, to sinner at La Luna. It can also provide a great first course.
Small plates here are excellent. Behind his net curtains, Gerald Diffey serves up modestly priced fare that is simple and perfectly executed. Depending on the butcher’s paper menu, you might also choose one of Diffey’s mains.
Whatever you choose, let the wayward spirit of this much-loved site move you. Surrender to its unique character and you’re certain to enjoy.
