Bistro Flor
Editorial
Oh, how excited we north-siders were when this little gem burst onto the scene. You would spy tram number 96 regulars casting lingering looks at Bistro Flor as we sailed down Nicholson Street – perhaps remembering the night before, perhaps fantasising about future evenings there. Because you see, it is a romantic place indeed. A friend of mine even proposed to his girlfriend there.
Dimly lit, lots of dark wood, candles and fresh flowers all add to the intimate setting. And while it lends itself to winter beautifully, Bistro Flor has the perfect courtyard to down a glass or three of prosecco. Which brings me to the wine list. Why, why, why aren’t there more establishments who understand what the owners of Bistro Flor clearly do? If you are not going to offer an abundance of wines, then make sure what you offer is varied in styles and cost. The wine list that presents you a choice of three chardonnays which are indistinguishable by taste and price tag is a crock. However, here at Bistro Flor with their small yet ample array, Spain, Italy, Germany, Australia and of course France are all up for grabs.
While you are welcome to just partake in the beverages here, you won’t. The entrees and food to share is excellent and once you read the menu you will happily submit.
Bistro Flor can also boast some of the best staff around. Attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. What more can be said?
