The Victoria Hotel
Editorial
There are plenty of pubs in Melbourne that offer a range of entertainment. Many do live music and trivia nights, but few would offer the broad and quirky range of activities that The Victoria Hotel does.
Located off the main strip and virtually in a world of its own, The Vic is a large space that has several areas. She’s nothing to look at from the outside, but once indoors there’s a lot going on. There’s the usual north side pub paraphernalia – lots of retro nick nacks with a few indoor plants jotted around. There’s the classic pub bar which props up the locals, a larger room with tables also has a stage for bands and often becomes an impromptu dance floor, a games room complete with table tennis table is very popular of a Sunday, and the beer garden is a cracker.
While there are trivia nights and live music, there is also an exercise class in the form of dance that sees some pretty wild moves, table tennis tournaments, and their once monthly queer night, Orlando, which has become the stuff of legend in the gay and lesbian community.
This is a great local hotel that hasn’t gone gastro-pub – which many will be thankful for – nonetheless they have quite the decent wine list.
