The Union Hotel
Editorial
Jordie Lane's duo Fireside Bellows has played here, as have the Wildes and Collard Greens And Gravy. And Stephen Cummings (of The Sports fame) just did a four-week residency.
Gigs tend to start well before 8pm, which combines with table service to make for a quiet, early night in conjunction with drinks and dinner. Location-wise, the Union is a bit out of the way, tucked into a residential neighborhood a fair walk from Sydney Road. But regulars appreciate that hidden-treasure quality as much as the absence of obnoxious revelers.
Show up a few times in a short space of time and you'll be treated like a friend. Catch some choice gigs and you can brag about them once the bands graduate to theatres and festivals.

Top pub!

Couldn't agree more with the last comment... it's the true Cheers where (if you go often enough) everyone will soon know your name. You can sit at the bar, old style, and chat to one of the staff or the brothers that own the joint. The food is amazing - but make sure you book a table if you want a guaranteed spot inside. The courtyard is awesome, the music is random - you'll hear old 90s rock backed by classic soul and blues. Kudos to this crew, I hope it never gets too famous.
